Glorious Yet Subtle Sounds

Glorious Yet Subtle Sounds

I took a walk around the block yesterday afternoon and smiled as I heard the sound of the leaves blowing through the trees, one of my favorite sounds ever. I forget this sound until summer comes around. Why do I only hear this in summertime, I wonder? Then it occurred to me, It’s all the deciduous flat leaves that shimmy and dance with the breeze. Evergreens, pines, firs, the trees that are left with foliage in winter simply do not produce that magical sound that deciduous trees do. It’s a glorious yet subtle sound, you could miss it altogether if you’re not paying attention, too busy on your cell phone, ipod, mp3 player, or other toys that take all of us out of the present moment. This time of year, nature reminds us to slow down, pay attention to the subtle lushness of delightful beauty that surrounds you when you can open your senses and be right here, right now.
